What is Exposed Concrete?

Exposed concrete gets its name from its ‘exposed’ aggregate concrete surface.

Unlike plain and coloured concrete which have a brushed but smoother finish, exposed concrete comprises natural textures such as pebble, shells, or silicate and crushed Quarry stone. A range of different stones are mixed into the concrete before it is delivered to site and poured.

The final texture depends on the combination of materials chosen. Rounder stones are softer on bare feet, while opting for crushed stone will give you more grip because it’s a rougher surface.

It is more slip resistant than brushed concrete
Fully customizable with a large range of colours and texture options. For example, you can control the ratio of white to black
Low maintenance, other than sealing and occasional cleaning
Retains its colour. Exposed aggregate concrete won’t fade like other decorative concrete.

How Much Does Exposed Aggregate Cost?

Exposed aggregate concrete is a higher price point than other types of concrete (plain and coloured) because of the additional material costs (the stones) and the need for different equipment to pour the concrete.

The cost is $110 per square meter including GST plus site preparation costs.

What Colours Are Available?

Exposed aggregate concrete is fully customisable – this means you have greater control over the colour simply by altering the ratio of white to black. You can opt for 10:90 through to 90:10 (and anything in between).
